A radiographer will place some clear gel on your skin and then move a handheld device called a transducer over the area being examined. The transducer sends and receives the sound waves, which are then converted into images on a screen. The radiologist will then look at these images and determine the findings. The radiologist will also compare the results to other tests and examinations done on your body such as mammograms or breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
